I wasn’t here for the presentation (Sorry Mr.Carter)

Key words and definitions (not in my own words):

Colonisation – the action or process of settling among and establishing control over the indigenous people of an area.

Independence – the fact or state of being independent.

Empire – an extensive group of states or countries ruled over by a single monarch, an oligarchy, or a sovereign state.

Passive Resistance – non-violent opposition to authority, especially a refusal to cooperate with legal requirements.

I wasn’t here for the History poster or the Gandi profile

Paragraph:

The salt march was a major peaceful protest which inclined because of salt taxes that the British had introduced to colonial Indian citizens.

This protest was important because it was the first act in a much larger campaign of civil disobedience, which helped free India from its colonizers.

It has been historically noted as the tipping point to the eventual freedom for India. Gandi’s influence had definitely helped the cause! Civil disobedience has been a major tactic in lots of countries which have been colonized. It was also seen in Africa, in the American civil rights movement, and many other movements in most reigons. It’s very effective for getting rid of those pesky British people!

In conclusion, the Salt March was a great victory on Indias part : )

Brown vs. Board of education:

Why was the supreme court’s desision significant?

It was vastly significant due to the fact that it affected all races and ethnicities, black children no longer had to bus for 2-3 hours to get to their segregated schools and were allowed to enter white-only schools. White schools would get less funding due to black students joining (black schools almost always had significantly less funding), and black schools would start to be given equality; although to this day schools with more black or brown students receive less funding (the United States is extremely racist). Unfortunately, racism still exists but its great how schools have become less segregated since this event.

Who was Rosa parks?

Rosa parks was a civil rights activist and the face of the montgomory bus boycott. The boycott started because she refused to give up her seat for a white man to sit down. The boycott started on the 1st of december ad lasted 381 days untill segregation on public transport was outlawed. She wasn’t the only one on the bus who didn’t stand, but she became a symbol of sorts. You can see in both the Brown vs. Board of education section and the Martin Luther King Jr. section that they both used a legal system that was rigged against them to get closer to freedom. Here is a poster about her:

Goodbye 🙂
